"Our workshops are a one of a kind experience and don't solely focus on the normal touristy hot-spots. We strive to give you a taste of local life by staying at bed-and-breakfasts when possible, eating regional cuisine and visiting unique locations. We don't want you to just take photographs, we want you to experience the town, city or village you visit. This is not your typical photography workshop!"

Photographic Workshop

"Cultural Significance" - Eastern China

November 15 - Nov 27, 2011

This workshop encompasses a fantastic combination of fast paced metropolitan city life, ancient rural villages and majestic mountain ranges. Get ready for your senses to be overloaded photographically.

The trip begins with photographing the busy yet beautiful city of Shanghai. Indulge yourself in its modern busy streets, famous landmarks, traditional alleyways, and its wonderful display of lights at night.

As we depart from the city and head west, you’ll see the transformation in scenery to China’s rural countryside. Our destination is one of China’s famous mountains, Huang Shan.  Here, you can really turn on your creative juices while photographing the spectacular scenery. This mountain range is a favorite of many traditional Chinese ink artists. Jagged ridges with wind-sculpted pine trees, clinging for dear life loom out of the landscape.  With luck, you might get a chance to see the mysterious morning fog, which turns this whole area into a magical photographic wonderland.

Next we'll go back in time, staying in and photographing the 900 year old village of Hong Cun, a UNESCO World Heritage site.  Here, you’ll get a sense of how people lived long ago, as many of the houses are still standing and are in fact occupied by the same families. You will get special permission to visit some of the homes where you can learn about and photograph the history of the families, many of which date back ten-plus generations.

We will set our base camp in Hong Cun and then venture off to other ancient and unique villages within the area.

The rich history, rustic architecture, and the “Venice-like” village layout, will leave you with spectacular photographs and is promised to be a truly memorable experience.
